Will Your Design Be Hubway's Next Limited Edition Bike?
BOSTON - BROOKLINE - CAMBRIDGE - SOMERVILLE
Metro-Boston rides #HubwayEveryday. As a special way to recognize this, Hubway is calling all metro-Boston area designers & artists (and anyone else with a cool idea) to design one distinct, unique Hubway bike, and enter it into our #HubwayEveryday Design Contest!
Contest entries will be accepted between Monday, July 21st, and Tuesday, August 12th (submission details below). Five designs will be selected as finalists by our review team, made up of representatives from all four Hubway municipal system partners, and those finalists will be posted online for a public vote for a period of two weeks. The winning artist chosen by the public will see their design made into one special Hubway bike released into our fleet of over 1300 bikes this summer and fall.
In addition to having their design, featuring their name (or @twitter handle), in the Hubway fleet, the winning artist will receive:
- an opportunity to be the first to ride the bike
- a feature in a Hubway newsletter
- one free Hubway annual membership
- one free registration to Hub On Wheels, September 21st, 2014
"How Should I Come Up With My Design?"
What inspires you about the area in which you live, work, or go to school? Why do you ride? Why is it important to #HubwayEveryday? Think about what makes Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Somerville, and the entire metro region tick.
You may have noticed that the Hubway fleet already has two special bikes: one to commemorate the launch of Hubway in 2011 and the other to celebrate our millionth ride in 2013. We call these magic bikes "unicorns." To get you inspired, check out those and a few other unicorn examples from bike share systems around the world:
Get as specific as you want with your design, or stay general. Either is okay, as the winner can work with our in-house designer to make sure designs are formatted correctly for the bike. So let your creative juices flow! Feel free to download a hi-res image of the bicycle by clicking the Hubway bike at the top of this page. All we ask is that you incorporate #HubwayEveryday into your entry.
How To Enter & Other Important Details
This opportunity is to create a unique visual design for an existing Hubway bike, and not to alter the hardware of the bike. Graphic designs should be submitted to Hubway in PDF version and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject: "#HubwayEveryday Design Contest."
- Include your full name, mailing address, and phone number.
- Only one entry per person.
- Must be artist’s original work.
- Artist or design statements are welcome, but are not required.
- If you are one of the finalists for the contest, we will contact you with details regarding the public vote. Your name and city/town of residence may be used, but other personal details will not be shared.
- If your design is selected as the winner, we will connect you with our in-house designer in order to make any necessary modifications prior to printing/painting the bike.
Submitted designs become property of Hubway for the purpose of the promotions associated with the "#HubwayEveryday Bicycle Design Contest," and Hubway and Alta Bicycle Share reserve the right to select, disqualify, or modify designs at their discretion. Modifications would be made in order to comply with legal and contractual format requirements. Again, we'll work with the winning artist on any required modifications.
We're excited about this opportunity to showcase a local artist's work on a Hubway bike. Are you that artist? Enter your design to show us why you #HubwayEveryday!
